General questions

Which travel pass is right for my trip?

GoSwiss offers several options for exploring Switzerland:

You can also book Swiss train tickets, mountain excursions, regional passes and selected panoramic train reservations through GoSwiss.

Not sure which option is best? Contact us and we’ll be happy to help you choose.

Do children travel free in Switzerland?

Children under 6 generally travel free when accompanied by an adult.

Children aged 6–15 can travel free with a Swiss Family Card when accompanied by at least one parent holding an eligible Swiss Travel System ticket, such as a Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Half Fare Card.

Children travelling without a parent may be eligible for reduced fares.

Is there a discount for travellers under 25?

Yes. Travellers aged 16–24 on the first day of travel can purchase the Swiss Travel Pass Youth at a reduced price while receiving the same travel benefits as the standard Swiss Travel Pass.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit cards and supported digital payment methods, including:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • American Express
  • Diners Club
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Alipay+

Available payment methods may vary depending on your device and location.

Do I need to reserve seats on Swiss trains?

Usually not.

Most regular trains in Switzerland do not require a seat reservation. Simply board with a valid ticket or travel pass and choose an available seat.

However, some panoramic trains require a separate seat reservation, even when the journey itself is covered by your Swiss Travel Pass.

This includes selected services such as:

  • Glacier Express
  • Bernina Express
  • GoldenPass Express
  • Gotthard Panorama Express

For popular mountain excursions and panoramic routes, we recommend checking reservation requirements before travelling, especially during the high season.

Can I use my Swiss Travel Pass for international journeys?

The Swiss Travel Pass covers travel within the Swiss Travel System network.

If your journey starts or ends outside Switzerland, you may need an additional international ticket for the part of the journey that is not covered by your pass.

Always check the coverage for your specific route before travelling.

Is luggage transfer included with my travel pass?

No. Luggage transfer services are not included with the Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Travel Pass Flex or Swiss Half Fare Card.

If you’d prefer to travel without carrying your luggage, SBB offers separate luggage transport services between selected stations and destinations.

What should I do if I have a problem with my pass while travelling?

If you experience a problem with your ticket or travel pass while you’re in Switzerland, please speak to staff at an SBB station as soon as possible.

For questions relating to your GoSwiss booking, you can also contact our support team.

If your journey is disrupted and you may need to make a claim later, we recommend keeping your tickets, booking confirmations and any documentation relating to the disruption.

Questions about booking

When will I receive my booking confirmation and tickets?

Most GoSwiss tickets and passes are issued electronically.

You should normally receive your booking confirmation and travel documents by email within 30 minutes of completing your order.

If you haven’t received them:

  1. Check your spam or junk folder.
  2. Make sure you entered the correct email address when booking.
  3. Contact our support team if your documents still haven’t arrived.

Some products can only be issued within a certain period before your travel date, so delivery times may vary for bookings made well in advance.

Can I show my travel pass on my phone?

Yes.

You can usually present your Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card digitally using the QR code on your mobile device. You may also print your travel document if you prefer.

Please make sure the QR code is clearly visible and that your phone has enough battery for ticket inspections.

Keep your travel document available throughout your journey.

Can I add my Swiss Travel Pass to the SBB app?

Swiss Travel System tourist passes purchased separately are generally provided as standalone travel documents and may not be added directly to the standard SBB app.

Keep the electronic ticket or QR code you received with your booking available on your phone.

How do I use my Swiss Travel Pass Flex?

Unlike the standard Swiss Travel Pass, the Swiss Travel Pass Flex requires you to activate each day you want to travel.

Always activate your travel day before beginning your journey.

Follow the activation instructions provided with your booking confirmation.

Can I change the start date or travel class after booking?

Once a travel pass has been issued, its start date, travel class or pass type generally cannot be changed directly.

If you’ve made a mistake or your plans have changed, please contact us as soon as possible.

Depending on the product and cancellation conditions, the original booking may need to be cancelled and a new ticket purchased.

We recommend checking your travel dates, passenger information and travel class carefully before completing your order.

I entered a traveller's name incorrectly. What should I do?

A small spelling mistake may not always cause a problem, but the passenger details on your travel document should match your official identification as closely as possible.

If you’ve made a significant mistake in a passenger’s:

  • first name
  • surname
  • date of birth

please contact us before travelling.

We will check whether the ticket can still be used or whether it needs to be cancelled and rebooked.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes, depending on the product and the conditions of your booking.

If you purchased the Flex Cancellation Option, eligible tickets can be cancelled without an additional cancellation fee up to one day before the first day of validity. The Flex Cancellation Option fee itself is non-refundable.

For bookings without the Flex Cancellation Option, cancellation fees may apply depending on how close the cancellation is to your travel date.

Once the ticket’s validity period has started, standard bookings are generally non-refundable.

Please see our Cancellation & Refund Policy for the full conditions before requesting a cancellation

How long does a refund take?

Once an eligible cancellation has been approved and processed, the refund will be returned to your original payment method.

Bank and card processing times can vary, so it may take several working days before the refund appears in your account.

Can I cancel just one traveller from a group booking?

In many cases, yes.

If one person in your group can no longer travel, or you need to cancel only one product from a larger booking, please contact us and tell us exactly which passenger or ticket you would like to cancel.

The cancellation conditions for that individual ticket or product will still apply.
