Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Seat reservations are mandatory during the high season from May to August. Outside of peak season, reservations are not compulsory but are strongly recommended, as trains can fill up quickly — particularly on clear weather days when demand spikes.
The Aletsch Glacier is the longest and largest glacier in the Alps, stretching 23 kilometres through a UNESCO World Heritage landscape. It is clearly visible from both the Sphinx viewing terrace at 3,571 metres and the Plateau viewing platform directly at the Jungfraujoch summit.
The Swiss Travel Pass (Flex) gives a 25% discount on the journey from Wengen or Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch. The Swiss Half Fare Card gives a more generous 50% discount, calculated from Interlaken Ost. Neither pass covers the full fare to the summit.
The train passes through over 7 kilometres of tunnel carved through the Eiger between 1896 and 1912. Along the way, two intermediate stops — Eismeer and the Jungfrau-Panorama — allow passengers to step off briefly and look out through windows set directly into the Eiger North Face, with views over the surrounding glacier landscape.
